Our Kitchen Renovation: One Year Later, the Reveal

Room Makeovers

18 Aug

Our final kitchen renovation reveal has been a long time coming. The truth is, I was waiting to improve my photography skills and/or feel more confident in sharing photos of our home that were not professionally styled and shot. Neither of those things has happened, but our kitchen is about to celebrate its first birthday. In honor of that milestone, it’s time to share pictures and sources!

before and after

We could not love the kitchen more. Is it perfect? No. But it’s pretty close to perfect for us. While we did not move walls, the increased storage, improved flow, and upgraded materials are everything. If you’re new here (or want to refresh your memory), you can get caught up on the project via the following links:

Even though the kitchen is long and narrow and doesn’t get good natural light, we worked with what we have. The new kitchen feels cozy yet luxurious.

kitchen details

The kitchen’s custom cabinetry was made locally by Prestige Cabinets (who also acted as the GC on the project and did a fabulous job). The ceiling height is 9′, making our uppers super tall, as they go all the way to the ceiling. We store little-used items in the tops of the uppers, if anything — there is plenty of storage elsewhere. We gained height when we removed the soffit, which was a gamechanger. It opened up the room and allowed for the taller cabinets. The island is 8.5′ long, an increase of about 3′.

The counters and slab backsplash are Taj Mahal quartzite (read about our stone selection process here). Wall paint color is Benjamin Moore Dove Wing, and trim and perimeter cabinet color is Benjamin Moore White Dove. Island stain is Coffee Bean (manufacturer unknown). The hardwood floors were preexisting; they are engineered hardwood red oak with a natural satin finish.
