Today I give you our home project plans for 2024! You’ll note that a few of the projects have carried over from our 2023 plans (you can read about our initial plans here and check out how we did here). One thing I’ve realized in thinking about this is that I’ve spent so much time, energy, and yes, money in the past several years focused on big projects and whole rooms. But I say it all the time – small changes can also have a big impact. I plan to practice what I preach this year. Swap out more ugly builder-grade doorknobs, freshen up trim paint (you may have seen me doing just that already on IG), replace a light fixture or two (or five)…
That said, we still have several rooms we want to tackle in a “big picture” kind of way. Read on for the list.
foyer
Paint! We have painted the lower part of the foyer twice since moving in, but the stairwell walls have not been touched. They are flat white and not pleasing to look at. I am excited for a softer, scuff-free front stairway experience for us and our guests. We have already received a reasonable quote from a painter, so hopefully we can get this in progress soon.
office
I’m bringing this back to the list for 2024. The reasonable painting quote mentioned above included my office (which is off the foyer), so that will happen. As I mentioned in my 2023 recap, I have already layered in a new rug, brought in new (to our home) bookcases, and rearranged some existing furniture. Over Christmas break, I completed a small DIY here, which I will share with you soon. New drapes and shelf styling will tie the room together.
dining nook
Another space that will be re-addressed this year! The plan has not changed from last year: rug, table, bar cart/cabinet. I would love, love, love to have a custom cushion and pillows made for the built-in bench; however, there are higher priorities on the list. That may end up on 2025’s plans.
guest suite
We are lucky to have a guest room with an ensuite bath. It does not see much use, as we do not get many out-of-town visitors. We also have a tween who we’re sure would appreciate getting some additional privacy and independence. Hence, a guest suite to teen suite conversion! Before the switcheroo, the bathroom will get a full gut, and the bedroom will be redecorated and styled to suit our young man. As you can see from the before shots above, the spaces are in need of transformations!
playroom
With a child growing up, there is less need for a dedicated playroom (aka toy storage room). We will transition the room into more of a study/reading lounge that still has plenty of space for displaying Lego builds, doing art, etc.
Finally (and this cannot be categorized into any one room), this will be the YEAR OF THE PURGE. I am an organized person who enjoys decluttering; however, I still have stuff that I no longer have use for, yet can’t seem to get rid of. The old laptops that need to be wiped before recycling. Items of clothing that could be worn for one specific occasion that I keep “just in case.” The list goes on. Just because we have space for it doesn’t mean it needs to live here forever!
I will be sure to share my progress with you along the way. Cheers to a lighter, prettier, more comfortable home in 2024!
