Inspiration

24 Feb

Are you following Lee Owens Design on social media? I recently discovered Lee’s Instagram account (@leeowensdesign), and her feed is quite lovely. Lee is an Upstate New York-based interior designer serving clients primarily in the Capital Region (Albany, Troy, Saratoga Springs, and the surrounding areas). Her design work includes both residential and commercial hospitality projects.

While Lee has an interior design degree from Syracuse University, her “training” began much earlier than college. With a mother who was an interior decorator and a father who was an architect, one can say that design is in her blood. Grab a coffee and settle in for some inspiration from Lee Owens!

troy project

The first word that comes to mind when looking at photos of this home is “approachable.” The design is beautiful and curated, but one can still imagine a family with children living here with ease. This home is a great example of the concept of traditional with a twist. The overall style of the space is traditional; however, Lee introduced certain furnishings and accessories with clean lines and varied texture to relax the feel a bit.

other residential designs

Other projects in Lee’s portfolio carry on the upscale casual aesthetic. Details to note include her use of pattern (that antelope stair runner!), blue and white/chinoiserie accessories, and traditional architectural details like box moulding.

And just when you were getting comfortable with Lee’s bright, airy designs and liberal use of color…. BAM! She serves up moody and dramatic vibes in this monochromatic dining room.

restaurant designs

A peek into Lee’s portfolio would not be complete without a look at her restaurant designs. Although these are commercial spaces, they provide takeaways and inspiration for our homes as well. For example, we learn that banquette seating is always a good idea! As with her residential designs, Lee’s blend of traditional and modern elements result in inviting and balanced spaces.

I hope you enjoyed this latest dose of design inspiration! Give Lee a follow and be sure to check out other articles in my One to Follow series here.
