Surprise! Today I’m sharing plans for a mini refresh of our primary bedroom that came out of the blue. Ever have those times when an opportunity just sort of falls in your lap, and you pick it up and SPRINT with it because if you blink it will be gone? This is one of those opportunities.
My husband recently floated the idea of repainting our bedroom. If you know us, you know that I am the serial painter, and he is the opposite. Rooms would stay the same color for millenia if it were up to him. He goes along with my painting whims because he’s that kind of guy. So when he suggested the painting project, I immediately said yes, even though it was not on our home project plan list for 2023.
I knew I could sneak in a bit of zhoosing in the process. Our bedroom is fine, but could definitely use some details and accessories to make it sing. We have bigger plans for later, including updated lighting, crown moulding, and new carpet, but for now, just a bit of decorating. This project is not budgeted, so the challenge is to spend as little money as possible. Scroll on for the before and the design plan!
bedroom before
This room is not terribly offensive; there’s just a lot of green. Plus furnishings and accessories that have been with us for a while and are not all that cohesive.
the design plan
This is a low-budget affair, so all the furniture will stay. Also costing nothing is the paint, as we have several unopened gallons of BM Dove Wing leftover from our kitchen renovation. Dove Wing is a creamy, greige-y off-white that leans slightly more beige than gray in its undertones. It should play nicer with the brown furniture than the existing green color.
Here’s the plan:
- paint the walls
- install new bamboo shades and possibly new drapes (at the very least a new drapery rod)
- mount the TV on the wall
- hang art
- accessorize: mini lamp for bachelor’s chest, jewelry organizer, photos, etc.
My budget? $500. Let’s see how I do! Check back soon for the reveal!
